200 grammi
Description
The Kabngetuny Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS) was founded in 1985 by the Ministry of Cooperative Development. Kabngetuny is located in Kipkelion District, Kericho County, surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Nandi Hills and Mau Nature Reserve, at the admirable altitude of 2000 metres, higher than many organizations in central Kenya. Kabngetuny is one of the first cooperatives to incorporate gender mainstreaming into its activities. The initiative saw women transfer full ownership of the land and coffee plants and become fully responsible for their own production and harvest, which is unique in Kenya. The opportunity contributed to women's empowerment as well as increased production and quality which supported long-term livelihood improvement. When it comes to specialty coffee, this part of Kenya is less well known than the central counties. But the producer groups here are just as old, experienced and organized as Kenya's more famous regions. Here the farmers carefully control the coffee plants creating a variety of profiles from a single processing batch. This variety is stripped and pressed the same day it is harvested. Once the fermentation process is finished, the coffee is washed and placed on raised beds for 2-3 weeks.
